Match Report for the Under 9's Bristol Youth Rugby v Bream RFC

On a beautiful autumn day in the middle of November Bristol Youth Rugby Under 9's found themselves in the Gloucester countryside playing their first game of contact rugby against Bream.

In what proved to be a hair raising and exciting series of games Bristol had their first two wins of the season scorning 5 tries to 3 in the first match and 4 tries to 1 in the second.

Bream kindly lent us a few players as we were down on numbers and scorned the first try for us. This was followed closely by a second spectacular try by Kai set up by Abigail.

Joaquin managed to get the ball next, running the full length of the field dodging Bream players to bring the score to 3 tries to 0. This was followed in quick succession by another great try from Kai. Matti, Leon and Archie provided great cover from the back.

All the players threw themselves into tackling with great a gusto and there were several pile ups in the second half of the game.

In the second half Bream fought back and scored a great try. A brilliant pass from Leon to Archie set the scene for a hat-trick  from Kai as he scored his last try of the match. Archie proved himself capable of covering ground with the ball and on several occasions charged ahead with bream players hanging on.

The game in the second half proved a roller coaster affair with the rugby ball flying from one end of the field to the other.

A second try by Bream brought the score to 5 tries  to 2. Kai spectacularly tackled the final try scorer for Bream with a Chris Ashton style dive. But in the final minutes a third try from Bream after a scrum on the line finished the game with a 5 tries to 3, win to Bristol.

Match 2

Not content with their victory the players decided to take on Bream for a second match. Within minutes Kai scored the first try of the game which was quickly followed by a try from Bream. A brilliant run by Joaquin followed but he was stopped in his tracks by a great tackle from Bream.

Abigail scored the next try which was set up by Leon. She managed to outrun four bream players to touch down on the line. When her brother Joaquin passed her the ball while on the ground (with what seemed like half of Bream RFC on top of him!), Abigail used the same formula to score her second try of the match.

Archie managed to get the ball next and ran through half a dozen Bream players before he was tackled near the try line, Matti provide excellent back up in the scrums. Some great international style kicking was done by Bream players as they kicked the ball through piles of players only to regain control of it the other side.

Dan who joined us for the second match took possession of the ball several times passing it to team players. He is proving to be a nifty passer under pressure. He helped set up the final try by Kai who once again outran the Bream side. Bringing the final score to 4 – 1 to Bristol.

Well done to everyone and thank you very much to Bream who not only lent us players but were

excellent hosts too. We are all looking forward to the re match.

A big thank you to James and Tom too whose excellent coaching is shining through in the quality of the Bristol Youth Rugby Team.
