Avonmouth (U8'S) vs BYR at Avonmouth U8’s

It was a clear sunny but crisp day at the Avonmouth grounds and there were many matches that day, from under 7’s to the adults.

This was the second game of the day for BYR and it was against Avonmouth's U8's team.

BYR kick off…

Joaquin started off passing the ball to Nate and after a five play move the ball was back in Nate’s hands. He made the touch down, 1-0 to BYR. Avonmouth’s ball now and they had possession for only a short time, three passes to be exact and the ball was turned over to BYR. Nate restarted for BYR and after a few moves from the visitors (BYR) it was another turnover, this time as a result of a forward pass. Avonmouth’s ball and yet again another turnover after some good moves.

The players from both teams were putting in a good showing but were unable to break each others defence. BYR ball once again and with only a couple of passes gave Kai a chance to take the team two up with a great run. Unfortunately, the try was disallowed as Kai went to place the ball down but then let it go. The players were warned before that they must place the ball down right down and with two hands. Still 1-0 to BYR. Avonmouth then proceeded when play started again with their first try, 1-1. BYR ball now and after a great build up, and getting very near to the try line, made a forward pass and thus, a turnover. Avonmouth takes the opportunity to go in the lead and does so, 1-2 to Avonmouth.

BYR’s ball but Avonmouth stepped up a gear and made many tags to take back possession of the ball. Avonmouth decided to extend their lead and made a good attempt too but Dan and Kai were having none of it stopped them in their tracks with two successive diving tags.

At the last play of the half, Avonmouth made sure they got the try and extended their lead, 1-3 to Avonmouth.

Second half

Avonmouth’s ball and they immediately improved on their score 1-4. BYR then made a great build up looking to increase their score but was tagged out. Avonmouth takes possession and yet again improved on their score, 1-5 to Avonmouth.

BYR looked a bit disappointed as they knew they could do better. The players looked to each other for support and encouragement and as the play resumed, it was Nate who responded with the try after a great team effort, 2-5 to Avonmouth.

Avonmouth then responded swiftly and was down the sideline, only to be stopped by Kai with another diving and rolling tag near the try line. This only temporary halted Avonmouth’s charge as they eventually pushed that final metre for the try, 2-6 to the home team.

BYR dug deep and pushed forward and Kai ensured that his previous try effort was put right with a decisive one. This time it went on the score sheet, 3-6 to Avonmouth. Another build up by Avonmouth but some great tagging by BYR saw Dan get the last tag in and stopped Avonmouth’s moves. Only just though as they eventually took the score to 3-7.

After a few more build ups, turnovers and tags by both teams in the last couple minutes Avonmouth increased their score in the dying seconds and the game ended 3-8 to Avonmouth.
