Avonmouth (U7's) vs BYR at Avonmouth U8's

It was a clear sunny and crisp day at the Avonmouth ground and there were many matches that day, from under 7’s to the adults.

The game kicked off at 11am and immediately Avonmouth scored a try. This was followed up swiftly by another try by Avonmouth and the score was 2-0 to Avonmouth. What was going on here. It seems that BYR have been shaken up, or are they still sleeping. BYR was having none of this and the n a swift move from Stanley with his fantastic sprint gave them a try and saw the score change to 2-1 to Avonmouth.

BYR ball and Joaquin steps up and made some swerving moves through the middle and then down the side leaving the competition wondering what’s going on as his determination along with his trade mark hanging tongue progressed him to the next try tying up the score at 2-2.

Avonmouth ball and after some great passing, eventually had the ball turned over to BYR. BYR was now poised and ready, they sensed the comeback and was not stopping now. When play resumed there were a few brilliant moves and passes from BYR which led to Joaquin again down the line and his second try of the game 2-3 to BYR.

Dan was having none of this and it was now his time to shine and get on the score sheet. With his famous stride and swerves he took the score to 2-4 to BYR. The team were now in their element and there was a great camaraderie building, with high fives and huddles for all.

Avonmouth dug deep and two successive trys saw the game level at 4-4 and there was all to play for now.

It was nearing the half time and it was time for Kai to step up, and step up he did with an encouraging run down the line - just as he likes, it ensuring that he does not step out of play - and just at the half, took the visitors, BYR into the lead with a the score at 4-5 to BYR.

The temperature was sure heating up on and off the pitch and the players came off and had their drinks, a huddle and a pep talk.

Some earlier changes were made in the first half and the coach was keen to make some more for BYR. This saw Joaquin come off for Abigail and Ben came off for Leon.

Both teams were very inspired and refreshed from their pep talk and drinks and came on for the start of the second half, ready to go.

The kick off was BYR’s and they made some great movements through the middle clocking up five successive passes only to have the ball turned over to Avonmouth. Avonmouth wasted no time with some moves of their own but this also resulted in a turnover to BYR.

A brilliant run from one side of the field and to the next came from out of the blue. The home team was left trying to catch up as a try was made and put the visitor’s two points clear in the lead at 4-6 to BYR. Kai jogged back to his team mates to more high fives and smiles.

Avonmouth’s ball, Avonmouth’s run, Avonmouth’s try – not. Thanks to the change made by the coach Abigail stopped Avonmouth in their tracks with some excellent tagging, just before the line. Still 4-6 to BYR.

On the line, a quick thinking Avonmouth, resulted in the completion of the try and it was 5-6 to BYR.

Play went on for some time with both teams making runs, tagging and a few turnovers and the coach made a change again. In comes Joaquin and Abigail goes off.

Play starts with BYR and after a pass to Joaquin and stride down the left the score was now 5-7 to BYR with Joaquin’s try. A few more changes by the coach were made as the game looked like BYR’s own for the taking and so the coach was keen to let everyone have a good go.

Avonmouth responded and suddenly stepped up a gear and scored a try, 6-7 to BYR.

The jury is out for this one: A fantastic run from Nate on the line and with a tumble and over the line. Was it a try? It was not given. In the sprit of the game we moved on with the score still 5-7. Avonmouth responded positively and pulled yet another one back tying up the sore at 7-7.

Time for Stanley to shine and what a finish after the build up from BYR. Stanley now on the score sheet also and it's now 7-8 to BYR. Can we get a more closer game!

It was now down to final play and from the BYR touch line Kai took hold of the ball and ran all the way down from the centre and then to the side to make the final touch down, 7-9 to BYR.

What a game. Look at how much BYR has come on since they regrouped some months ago in September. Look at them now, showing fine form and team sprit! Well done!
